What Is Calcium Hypochlorite?
Physical Property
Melting point: 100°
Density: 2.35g/cm3
logP: 1.242
Refractive index: 1.545
Appearance: White powder
Solubility: Soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol
Chemical Property
Strong oxidants, water or moist air can cause combustion explosions, and when mixed with alkaline substances can cause explasions. Exposure to organic matter is a risk of combustion, and when exposed to heat, acid or sunlight it decomposes and releases irritating chlorine gas.
Security
It is toxic, irritates the skin and eyes, and can cause nasal congestion and sore throat. Contact and use of workers should wear the prescribed equipment to prevent ammonium hypochlorite solution into the human body and skin, if accidentally into the body, should immediately rinse with water. When the skin is burned, it should be washed with sodium thiosulfate dilute solution and water, and then applied with olive oil. Calcium hypochlorite can spontaneously ignite when it encounters organic matter and flammable materials. It shall not be stored and transported with organic matter, acid, oil and reducing agent.
